When former Army soldiers launched Grit Hounds, they aimed to bring military precision and grit to junk removal but needed a brand that resonated with veterans and the community. Colour Outside developed a resilient brand identity featuring matte black trucks, military-inspired visuals, and messaging reflecting their “never leave a job unfinished” ethos. Today, Grit Hounds stands out in the industry, offering customers trust, respect, and military-grade professionalism on every job.

Grit Hounds is a veteran-run junk removal operation that’s not afraid to get dirty. Run by a former Army soldier, the Grit Hounds brand is an ideal mix of professional and badass. Inspired by our client’s experiences with war, our team had the honor of building a brand that celebrates their dogged perseverance and military pride. That meant we needed every aspect of their brand — from the messaging to the visuals — to exude unyielding integrity and meticulous execution.

Our team was committed to bringing Grit Hounds’ brand to life in a way that would resonate with their audiences. We wanted customers to feel the texture of the company’s grit and hard work and to trust the junk haulers to handle even the dirtiest jobs in their homes. To achieve this, we drew inspiration from work dogs, military insignia, Army vehicle labeling, camouflage, leather, whisky, and the 5 o’clock shadow. These visuals, combined with authentic language, pack a punch and make the brand truly unforgettable.

Our collaboration with Grit Hounds was a true partnership, with our client involved in every step of the brand development process. Together, we crafted a comprehensive brand guide that defined the brand’s positioning, messaging, and visual components. In addition, we designed a fully wrapped branded work truck — stealthy but sexy, a far cry from the boring white trucks and stereotypical branding of their competitors — and a custom website, complete with unique imagery and photos from a personalized photoshoot. This collaborative approach ensured that every aspect of the brand did justice to Grit Hounds’ ethos and vision.
